During a Dead Space panel at Comic-Con today, developer Visceral Games showed some interesting footage from a motion capture session for Dead Space 2. In the scene were the actors playing our hero Isaac Clark and the one that got away, Nicole. Gamers who played the first Dead Space will remember that Isaac spent the game trying to find Nicole on the ruined spaceship Ishimura. There is a lot of ambiguity as to whether or not Nicole is still alive and[SPOILER ALERT] the final moment of the game finds a necromorphed Nicole lashing out at Isaac.
In this scene Nicole has her hand around Isaac's throat and is strangling him. "Who am I?!" she demands. It was difficult to tell if she knows the answer or is genuinely interrogating him. She admits to Isaac that she's dead and that he can't get over it. Isaac says she can't hurt him, but then she proves him wrong by snapping his neck. The actor playing Isaac fell to the ground.
Visceral Games explained that this is a real scene from the game that just hasn't been converted to CGI, yet. Apparently it's a quicktime event and if you mash a button fast enough Isaac will break free from Nicole's grasp.
So what does this all mean? If Nicole is dead, how is she being such a pain in the neck (sorry, couldn't resist)? Is Isaac hallucinating and mistaking someone else for Nicole? Unfortunately, Dead Space 2's January 25, 2011 release date – and the answers – are a long ways off.

Dead Space 2 Multiplayer Is Like Left 4 Dead
The original Dead Space was a tense single-player experience, but the team at Visceral Games is adding a multiplayer component for the sequel. EA has been keeping a lid on the specifics, but it looks like a few details have leaked: one of the multiplayer modes will feature players fighting each other as opposing teams of humans and monsters, similar to Left 4 Dead.
The rumor comes out of a recent GameStop conference, where EA allegedly dished out some info regarding Dead Space 2's online modes and pre-order incentives. Players will be divided into teams, one taking control of the hideously mutated necromorphs and the other assuming the role of standard human soldiers. Presumably, each side will have unique units, weapons, and abilities to create a level playing field.
While this is an exciting rumor when it comes to the game's replayability, I'm still more pumped up for the game's single-player campaign. For me, Dead Space is more about isolation and dread than teamwork...but I'm still intrigued to see what Visceral can do on the online front.
