Sony kann dementieren, so viel sie wollen - ein neues PS3 Modell kommt demnächst. Das belegt ein nagelneuer Patentantrag bei der japanischen Regierung. Obwohl noch keine HDD Volumen angegeben werden (das neue Modell wird nur als New SKU aufgeführt), sieht man doch deutlich, dass zwei USB Ports gegenüber der 60GB HDD Version fehlen und das sogar bereits ein neuer Controller aufgeführt wird.
Erinnert euch, neben einer kleineren Festplatte, sollte laut Gerüchten das neue PS3 Modell auch auf USB Ports verzichten - um dann letztendlich zu einem möglichen Low-End Preis von 399 € verkauft werden zu können.

Providing an incredibly appealing entry point to the world of High Definition gaming and entertainment for the holiday season, the new PS3 brings the next generation of interactive home entertainment to homes all across Europe, Middle East, Africa and Australasia.
Along with an ever expanding line-up of PS3 titles (a total of 65 titles tracking across all genres by Christmas), the new PS3 is equipped with a 40GB HDD and includes all the features central to the High Definition entertainment experience; true next generation gameplay, stunning High Definition Blu-ray Disc™ movies, SIXAXIS™ wireless controller, Wi-Fi and HDMI connectivity, all powered by the Cell Broadband Engine™, the digital heart of PS3.
As with the 60GB PS3, the new PS3 features upgradeable firmware allowing new features and functionality to be added to the system as time progresses. A recent firmware update, for example, enabled PS3 to upscale DVD’s played on the system to full 1080P High Definition.
The introduction of the new PS3 has been determined following user feedback from thousands of existing PS3 owners as well as research into future potential PS3 owners. The new model features two USB 2.0 ports rather than four and no longer includes the multi memory card port.
The new model is no longer backwards compatible with PlayStation®2 titles, reflecting both the reduced emphasis placed on this feature amongst later purchasers of PS3, as well as the availability of a more extensive line-up of PS3 specific titles (a total of 65 titles across all genres by Christmas).
The existing Starter Pack*, comprising a 60GB PS3 with extensive backwards compatibility, an additional SIXAXIS wireless controller and two first party titles will be reduced in price to €499. Remaining on sale while stocks last, the 60GB model represents outstanding value for the keen gamer wishing to upgrade to the High Definition capabilities of PS3.

Wie Ihr bestimmt schon mitbekommen habt, wird die Playstation 3 in Europa ab 13. Oktober für nur noch 399 Euro angeboten werden. Damit wurde nun wohl der Preiskrieg auf ein neues angefacht, denn Microsoft hat nun vor zum Gegenschlag auszuholen und ebenfalls den Preis der Xbox 360 zu reduzieren.
Zunächst plant man bei Microsoft wohl die Core Systeme nochmals in Angriff zu nehmen. In der Tat wird nämlich dem Xbox 360 Arcade Pack von nun an eine Core Konsole, ein Funkcontroller, eine 256 MB Memory Card, sowie wie 5 Xbox Live Arcade Spiele und ein Jahresabo Xbox Live beiliegen. Dieses Komplettpaket soll dann ab 3. November für die 279 Euro erhältlich sein.
Microsoft wird dann ebenfalls ein Xbox 360 Premium Value Pack vermarkten, welches ebenfalls ab 3. November für 349 Euro angeboten werden soll. Hier sind dann eine Xbox 360 Premium, ein Funkcontroller, sowie die zwei Spiele Forza Motorsport 2 und Viva Piñata enthalten.
Zu guter Letzt wäre da noch ein Call of Duty 4 Pack, welches in Zusammenarbeit mit Activision veröffentlicht werden soll, welches Anfang November für 385 Euro über den Ladentisch gehen soll. In diesem Paket sind dann eine Xbox 360 Premium und Call of Duty 4 enthalten sein. Abschließend wäre noch zu erwähnen, dass alle Konsolen wohl von nun an einen HDMI-Port besitzen müssten.

Update 20:15 Uhr: Entgegen unserer ursprünglich Meldung wird die 60-GB-PlayStation nicht das primäre Modell im Sony-Produktportfolio bleiben. Vielmehr ist es nur noch verfügbar, solange der Vorrat reicht. Ab jetzt wird für Europa nur noch das neue 40-GB-Modell hergestellt.

Fehlende Abwärtskompatibilität: Warum sollte Sony ein Feature streichen, das zur Kosteneinsparung bereits von einer Hardwarelösung auf eine Softwarelösung abgeändert wurde!? Ob die Software läuft oder nicht ändert an den Kosten rein gar nichts!

Das man bei neuen PS3 Modellen später ein vollständige Softwarelösung für die Abwärtskompatibilität bringen wird halte aufgrund des embedded VRAM im GS für sehr unwahrscheinlich.

Es ist ja auch so, dass man sich (ich mir) aufgrund der angeblich gigantischen Leistung der PS3 erhofft hat (habe) die PS2 Games würden auf der PS3 verbessert! -> Skalierung, Kantenglättung, Anisotropisches Filtering, ...

The 40GB PlayStation 3 models, devoid of any PS2-related semiconductors, will likely not have any options for backwards compatibility in the future. Speaking to Joystiq, SCEE Director of Corporate Communications Nick Sharples said that there are no plans to offer emulation software as downloadable content at a later date.
"We have no plans to do so at the moment. The sheer numbers of PS2 titles available, together with the increased complexity of using a software only solution for each and every title means that to ensure accurate software emulation for the majority would be technically challenging, time consuming and costly," he said.
When asked about the fate of future emulation updates for 80GB and PAL-territory 60GB models that are running software-supported backwards compatibility, Sharples told us, "the current PS3 system software and future updates will continue to support backwards compatibility for the current 60GB and 80GB models." He later added, "The current solution offers around 90% backwards compatibility with PS2 titles and we are able to help publishers to make sure any new PS2 titles are backwards compatible with the 60GB and 80GB models."
"Keen gamers in Europe, for whom backwards compatibility is important, can still purchase the existing 60GB PS3 Starter Pack which contains an extra SIXAXIS controller, two first party titles and has extensive backwards compatibility with PS2 titles."

Japan: 40GB-PS3 angekündigt / Sonderfarbe 'Ceramic White' geplant / 'Spider-Man 3' Blu-ray gratis
09.10.07 - Sony gibt bekannt, dass die PS3 mit 40GB Festplatte am 11.11.07 auch in Japan auf den Markt kommen wird. Das Modell mit der Seriennummer CECHH00 soll Yen 39.980 (Euro 242 / USD 340) kosten.
Es ist dasselbe System, das bereits für Europa angekündigt wurde: Diese PS3 ist u.a. nicht mehr abwärtskompatibel zur PS2, hat nur zwei statt vier USB-2.0-Ports, verzichtet auf den Multi-Kartenleser und ist 600 g leichter.
Die Konsole soll nicht nur in dem bekannten Schwarz ('Clear Black') angeboten werden, sondern auch in weiß ('Ceramic White'). Entgegen einem früheren Bericht der Famitsu, soll nach Angaben von Sony CE der Sixaxis- und nicht der Dual Shock 3-Controller beiliegen.
Jeder Kunde erhält beim Kauf zudem den Film 'Spider-Man 3' auf Blu-ray Disc geschenkt. Das wird aufgrund einer Marketing-Kampagne möglich, die Sony CE mit Sony Pictures Entertainment eingeht.
