"The Outfit" ist ein Mix aus Shooter, Taktik- und Strategiespiel. In der "3rd-Person-Perspektive" steuert man seinen Soldaten über Kriegsgebiet und kann dabei Kameraden herbeirufen, sollte es nötig sein. Stets ist taktisches Vorgehen ratsam, aber auch pure Waffengewalt führt ab und an zum Erfolg. Besonders viel Wert legten die Entwickler Relic Entertainment auf eine komplett zerstörbare Umgebung und die volle Ausnutzung der Ressourcen der XBox 360. Als Setting für die 12 Singleplayer-Missionen dient einmal mehr der 2. Weltkrieg.
